Eco-friendly christmas carnival in Vadodara | Vadodara News

Vadodara: A snowman was created from 20 kg of straw waste, Santa and his gifts were prepared from 30 waste cardboard boxes and fabrics, and pretty reindeer were made from 25 cardboard boxes. This is how an event to celebrate Christmas turned eco-friendly in the city.
A Vadodara-based couple, Aayushee and Preet Shah, decorated an entire space where all the decorations were made from waste materials like old cardboards, plastic wrappers, clothes, electronic chips, and straws, among others, to celebrate the festivities. Interestingly, all these decorations were completely sustainable, handmade by women of rural communities.
“Upcycling of old materials is done to ensure that new carbon emissions are not created. When we use old materials in a creative way, it is called upcycling,” said Aayushee Shah, who, along with Dhvani Sheth, introduced the concept of upcycled décor services that focus only on making zero waste event decorations.
“Over the last six months, we introduced the upcycled decor services to complete the loop of the circular economy, where we are making zero waste event installations and decorations,” she said.
For the Christmas carnival, ten waste plastic banners were used to create the shimmery backdrop of the photo booth. The Christmas tree was made of 60 kg of electronic waste, while 25 old cassettes and 50 cassette covers were upcycled into lovely gifts.
“The overhead decor had 950 pieces of tailor waste and 1200 pieces of biscuit and chips wrappers. Similarly, the candy canes were created from worn-out clothes, and candies were created from biscuit and chips wrappers. Gifts and chocolates were made from waste fabrics and cardboard boxes,” she said, adding that the entire décor setup generated livelihood for around 20 households as they were handmade by women of rural communities.
