Felt Flower Stockings

Marty Baldwin

Braided Felt Stocking

Alexandra Grablewski

This homemade stocking is so easy to create; all you need are a few pieces of felt, a hot glue gun, and some fun embellishments:

  1. Cut two stocking patterns out of felt and glue them together by the sides, creating a stocking form—don’t forget to leave the top open!
  2. Using the same color of felt, cut several long, thin strips, and braid. Hot glue the braid over the outside of the stocking to hide the glued edges, looping the braid at the top to form a hanging loop.
  3. Add a few pom-poms, tassels or other fun accents, and wait for Santa to fill the stockings!

Grain Sack Stockings

Ray Kachatorian

T-Shirt Yarn Stockings

CARSON DOWNING

Grab your old T-shirts and give them a second life in the form of a Christmas stocking.

  1. Cut the fabric of a T-shirt into a one-inch strip by slicing around in a square shape until you reach the center of the fabric.
  2. Map out a graphic color block design on rug canvas.
  3. Weave your T-shirt yarn through the mesh.
  4. Attach felt to the back.

To have enough fabric for a stocking, you will likely need at least three T-shirts, depending on the sizes.

Polka-Dot Stockings

Add fun textures and colors to your Christmas decor with these polka-dot stockings. To make the stocking body:

  1. Trace a stocking pattern onto a double layer of felt.
  2. Cut the pattern out, making sure to cut through both layers.
  3. Fold down the tops of both felt stocking pieces to create cuffs.
  4. Layer the stocking pieces on top of each other, with the cuffs on the outside.
  5. Blanket stitch the stocking body pieces together using six strands of embroidery floss. Be sure to leave the top of the stocking open.
  6. Stitch pom-poms to the cuff and hot-glue felt balls in groups of three to the stocking front.

To make a tassel:

  1. Cut a five-inch length of piping cord.
  2. Wrap embroidery floss tightly around the cord, starting at the center of the cord and working in one direction. Change colors as desired to form stripes.
  3. Leave about two inches of each cord end uncovered.
  4. Fray one cord end.
  5. Stitch the un-frayed ends of the tassel cords under the folded cuff on the stocking front.
